Our boys Remy - (the black one) 2ish years old Gambit - (the tan one) 5 years old Akiro - the Husky 8 years old We've raised and re-homed a lot of cats that come our way, some like Gizmo and Rogue the mothers dropped by our house long enough to judge we were good animal people and drop their kittens of for caring.. we found homes for the rest but kept Rogue and Gizmo - Toki was my mother in law's cat, he has neurological issues every now and then. And Kittums is no longer with us, but he's our baby and will always have a spot with the 'family pictures' Rogue 6mo old kitten Toki and Gizmo (3yr & 1yr) Kittums <3 Anansi - 8mo old 2ft Florida King Snake And last but not least Kaia the Raccoon we raised - went to live at a wildlife center in OR after coming to the vet clinic as a orphan with cataracts. I've always been into wildlife care, but Kaia is the entire reason for the Forest Horizon Wildlife Center.. i131.photobucket.com/albums/p318/ashenspirit/Animals/9c421a77-f853-48a4-b8de-9168651e0ed6_zpsef2b93a2.jpg [/img]

Hmmm... not sure if attaching a photo is how to get this to work, but I'll try it. My babies: The husky is about to turn 5, and the bird just turned 4. ;D They love each other. Attachments:

Lovely pictures I love the husky with the cocktiel on its head. We have a cockatiel aswell but he's quite new and is stillg etting used to being handled, such cheeky birds though. Im also a little jealous Ashen you getting to help with wildlife, closest I have come is falconry, I totally fell in love with the birds. Here's our furry family. Serendipity is my 4 year old GSD who has been around me at least once a week since she was 3 days old because the breeder is a good friend of mine, as expected Seren and I are inseperable and when she isn't with me I feel like I have a missing limb. here she is at 3 weeks and again just before she turned 4. Seren loves agility and is currently being trained in working trials which means donning a bite sleeve 0.o heres Harvey our 9 year old JRT, had him since he was 8 weeks old and his nickname has become 'the git'. If you know Jacks you know why XD its not his best picture, I'm a little frustrated as imageshack has changed everything and now I've no clue how to upload new picures!! Harvey loves nothing more than playing tug, like a true terrier. This is my partners 10 year old guide dog, she's still going strong in her work, but due to him relocating to the UK and she not knowing the area too well Venna will be retired this summer. Here she is posing in my daughters brownie guide uniform. Her favourite thing is zoomies whilst being chased on all fours, usually by me or my partner. Please note we do not advocate dressing dogs up.. this was just some lighthearted fun which Venna seemed to enjoy and my youngests bunny rabbit Rosie. She arrived in March last year and is 1 yr old. She's a real character, her favourite past time is stretching out on the sofa and sleeping there, she also likes to run around the garden with the dogs

As I'm living in a little flat that doesn't allow pets I don't really have any pets of my own. However I consider the animals that live with my mum to be pretty much joint owned by me and her. They live with her, but I go up every day to visit and help care for them and walk/train the dogs and we share some food and vet costs and things. So, these are my babies. xD Lucy: Elsa: William: Kizzy: Connor: Phil: Malii: Ebony:

Was talking about Akiro's/husky eyes in Chat... Can't really see but if you lift up the eye lid a little on the brown eye, the top 1/4 of it is white/blue

Eep, blastomycosis. When I worked in a rural clinic alongside animal control I saw it all the time. Hows gambit doing now? It says a lot that gambit is getting better, it takes a LOT of hard work to get a pet through this.
Noticed you rescued a raccoon. I used to be one of the vets for a sanctuary in IL that mainly rescued raccoons. I brought in thick gloves etc for the first one I saw, to have a ten year old reach in with their bare hands and set one on my shoulder.
I was disgusted when my boss amputated a raccoon's leg with no pain medication, because he "didn't know what to give and its a wild animal, they can deal with it"...That's what the internet is for. Oddly enough 3 clicks and I found a manual on medications and doses for raccoons.
It was sort of funny a week later when they brought him back after I saw him and prescribed buprenorphine (a synthetic opioid.) They thought he was still in pain because he was much more chilled on buprenorphine than off it. He was one high raccoon! xd (Of course I gave the benefit of the doubt and continued medicating the pain, but at that moment he would have made one good youtube video!)
I miss my pets...

Gambit is doing much better, it's been about a month on Fluconazole and asprin and this last week he seems to be back to his happy self, wanting to play with his favorite toys again, although if he has a high energy day it's usually followed by a only going to move to change positions day. Thankfully it never got into his lungs so he wasn't struggling for breath the whole time. Will post a video as soon as I get it uploaded Kaia (the raccoon) changed me, I hope to either work at or own a wildlife center one day, you mentioned IL - I'm actually in WI, so not too far away although I think in another thread you mentioned being in Colorado.. maybe that was someone else. I was never afraid of Kaia, or the big predators I worked with as a big cat sanctuary intern, but she did leave a nice scar on my knee.. it was odd, when puberty set it for her, I became the big competing bitch or something, when I had my cycle she hated me. I miss her so, but at that point in my life I wasn't ready. Currently in school for Vet Tech, I think you mentioned you were a Veterinarian? That's freaking terrible about that boss, and am very glad you were able to keep him stoned! I know Gambit did well with the amputation but it's so very painful.. broke my heart on the car ride home when Gambit just leaned up against me.

Hey Ashen,
I'm currently in CO, lived in IL from 2008 till 2011. Yes, I'm a veterinarian, and IL is where 'm licensed. Fingers crossed that if things work out, I'll be retaking my NAVLE (National Boards) in April ish in order to license in other states. Ive kept up pretty well, but if not actively practised for a year or more, its more and more common to require to pass the boards again in states other than your state of home licensure. In my case as you read, was due to disability.
There's a brilliant veterinarian from Fox Lake, IL who volunteers his time at a big cat sanctuary in WI, Dr Bohdan Rudowski. He's about one of the most superb surgeons I've ever known, though is not boarded in any way. He does PFOs in his office. Also just an all round genius. Also charges exceptionally inexpensively. He was one of the vets I took my own dogs to if something was beyond me/I didn't have the equipment handy. You could do a lot worse than to spend some time with him if it became a possibility. If you were interested sometime, shoot me an email and I'll give you the info, and a few things its wise to know of ahead of time (He's a good guy but being aware of a few quirks ahead of time can make your life a lot easier! xd)
Its awesome you're in school to be a CVT. if you have any questions on vet medicine, I'd be delighted to answer if I can, just send an email to wolfhound22@hotmail.com

Thanks for the offer for help with school stuff I'm sure I'll need it! Had 3 Vett courses this semester but next semester is the last of my general education courses. And that's super awesome about pretty much everything you said! And I'd love to spend time with the Dr. ... actually if your talking about Valley of the Kings in Sharon WI I'm really close to them, and plan on paying membership fees and volunteering there as soon as I get a job where I can afford the gas money to commit to it.
I know what you mean about what a pain the state boards can be and believe me I know the headache it can be to transfer to other states.. just found out recently that my CNA license -- which I've held in 4 different states over the last six years, is invalid in WI because my main training course was 16hrs short of the required hours training experience.. nevermind that I've had continuing education training over the last 6 years and mentor training so that I trained the freaking students.. grr to red tape and paperwork!

As far as I remember, am not absolutely sure but Dr Rudowski is not volunteering atValley of the Kings to my knowledge. He volunteers at www.bigcats.org I think. He owns Fox Lake Animal Hospital, Fox Lake, IL. A nutcase but a genius and was very helpful and kind to me. I refuse to do docking, declaws, ear cropping etc, and while he does them, he was supportive, let me watch the procedures to objectively make up my mind and told me how to present the issue to prospective employers, and it was never a problem getting employment with that agreement, with only one employer thinking I was weird. Of course I am weird, but hey. XD

I just noticed that Gambit has been on aspirin a while. Are you giving him any medication to prevent gastric ulcers like famotidine (Pepcid AC). Of course this is something to discuss with your vet. Also, if not planned, discussing a 6 wk check on Chem and CBC to check for any GI bleeding and liver/renal function from aspirin may be a good idea. Get them to show you how to take blood if they agree (and don't already know) xd.
We used to practice on each other in vet school, we got the wide eyed stare from our physicians when we had appointments, wondering just why we had so many IV marks. Plus the heavy use by some of IV Ringers Lactate/dextrose and a little phenerghan after a "hard" Saturday night lol.
